“In some Native languages, the term for plants translates to ‘those who take care of us.’”
– Robin Wall Kimmerer, Braiding Sweetgrass
As the sun approaches peak strength and the land begins to dry, the forests and chaparral welcome summer. Join Herb Club LA for a guided walk through Switzer Hiking Trail, nestled in the San Gabriel Mountains, where we'll learn to identify the plants that thrive along SoCal's riparian.
What to Expect:
Switzer Trail allows for a shaded & cool herb walk away from the heat of this summer. It's about a 20 minute drive from the Pasadena area.
- Tea Meditation: We’ll begin with a grounding tea featuring a native plant, to attune our senses and set an intentional, slow-paced tone.
- Guided Herb Walk: Learn to identify plants of the riparian corridor and mixed chaparral, exploring their ecological roles, and cultural connections. Plants we may meet include mugwort, yerba buena, wild blackberry, and canyon sunflower.
- Embodied Connection: This is more than a walk. It's an invitation to listen to the land, to move gently, observe deeply, and reflect on how we adapt with the season.
We may or may not make it to the waterfall, but that’s truly not our destination. The plants and stories along the way are the true guides. We will honor the meeting times. If you'd like to make it up to the waterfall, feel free. It's about a 4.5 mile hike roundrip
